So the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains (what a mouthful!) just hit Revlon counters in the Philippines. For a time I thought that they would not be available here, but Revlon is pretty good about making their line available internationally. Can’t say the same about Maybelline and L’Oreal, sadly. Anyway, here they are! :)
I got two shades: 030 “Smitten” (above) and 001 “Honey.” So I have one brighter shade and one on the more nude side of the spectrum. These balm-stains are supposed to (as the name suggests) hydrate and leave a stain of colour on your lips at the same time. As stains are usually the most drying formula of lip products, that claim is on the daring side (as far as make up claims go). And if these look familiar to you, here’s why:
The packaging is pretty much a copy of Clinique’s Chubby Stick, though they perform nothing alike. The Clinique Chubby Stick is just a moisturizing coloured lip balm which does not aim to stain your lips. I like both products for different reasons and don’t find them comparable in anything but packaging. Within that packaging, you get 2.7 grams of product in the Revlon stick and 3.0 grams in the Clinique stick. For reference, bullet-form MAC lipsticks contain 3.0 grams of product. Considering that you pay 575.00php for the Revlon stains, 950.00php for the Clinique balms, and 950.00php for MAC lippies locally, I don’t think the missing 0.3g of product in the Revlon stick is a huge deal. Plus, it is meant to stain, so you shouldn’t have to reapply to often, ideally.
These are the tips of “Smitten” and “Honey.” These twist up, so no need to sharpen. That’s a good thing, as I’ve tried crayon formula pencils that need sharpening and you only feel as though you’re wasting product when you do so.
Swatched! “Smitten” is a deep magenta pink that I thought would come out more purple-y based on the packaging. I like this color, but I think I should have gone for something deeper/darker since magenta pink is a color I don’t really love. “Honey” is a mauve-y pink shade, which I’m glad of since it looked like it was going to be a bright baby pink based on the packaging. When worn it looks very natural, adding just a bit of colour and evening out the tone of my lips.
Overall I am happy with this purchase. I do think that you still need to condition your lips before applying these, even if they are supposed to have a built-in balm. After a few hours my lips still dried out a bit, but the colour stayed on nicely. If I do decide to get another one of these (am not too sure yet), I will pick up an even deeper colour than Smitten. I like the product and I think that it is a huge improvement from their original lip stain, but their Lip Butters are still the best lip products in their line, in my opinion, even without the staining quality.
Once again, these are available for 575.00php wherever Revlon products are sold in the Philippines. They’re worth checking out for sure!
[EDIT]: Here’s a photo of me wearing Smitten! This was taken after two hours of shopping, sipping on iced coffee, and munching on some chips! The colour is slightly patchy in some places, but man this stuff stains good! It also took me quite a bit of effort to remove the stain with a makeup remover.
