L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows – Swatches + Sad News

If you have never swatched a L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadow before, just reading about the texture will be slightly confusing. They are neither powders nor creams, which leaves them in this weird little limbo area usually occupied by mousses. Well, they aren’t mousses or even “whipped” products either. I suppose the closest thing in consistency would be the limited edition MAC crushed pigments but these L’Oreal shadows are much easier to work with (and they’re more affordable, too). The best way I can think to describe them is to say that they’re like great creamy eyeshadows mixed in with a good primer and then pressed into a pot. Just one swipe yields a ton of pigment that will last you ALL day with no creasing and very little fading depending on which colour you use. I have heard of a couple of colours being duds, but thankfully none of the ones I own are such.

I love them so much that I own seven colours and I only want more! The first four I picked up (top photo) are Continuous Cocoa, Eternal Sunshine, Iced Latte, and Amber Rush. I always use Continuous Cocoa pushed into my lash line with a small angled brush. Eternal Sunshine and Iced Latte are the two that I use least often because they are a very yellow gold and a frosty white respectively. They would look much better on lighter-skinned girls, I think. Amber Rush is by far my favourite. It’s a beautiful rose gold that just looks very soft and feminine on the eyelids. You can easily do a one-colour look with it because it seems to create its own depth, but shading the crease with a matte brown also works well.

The next three shades I chose were Smoldering Plum, Bronzed Taupe, and Golden Emerald. I really did my research before ordering these through House of Flair, so I was really excited when I finally got my hands on them. My fave of the three is Bronzed Taupe, which I would describe as a neutral-toned light bronze. I still like Amber Rush the best out of all of my Infallible shadows, but Bronzed Taupe comes in a very close second. I found Smoldering Plum a little difficult to work with because it looked nearly black on my eyelids while Golden Emerald was just… wow. What a gorgeous green! I used to wear green eyeshadow all the time but I got a little tired of it and ditched colours for neutral shades. Maybe it’s time to bring it back! Emerald green is the 2013 Pantone colour of the year, too, apparently.

Swatched! L-R: Bronzed Taupe, Smoldering Plum, and Golden Emerald

I actually had fun filtering through my photos of these swatches because the colours just looked so pretty. The Infallible eyeshadows really are a dream to work with because of the high pigmentation and their lasting power. Most of the shades are shimmers or frosts but Continuous Cocoa is demi-matte if not completely matte. They are also pretty affordable at around 6 – 10 US Dollars depending on what drugstore you get them or if you find them on sale. I got my second batch on a buy two, take one promo for example.

The sad news is that these are not available in the Philippines. :( We don’t even have an Asian equivalent. I almost didn’t even make this post because they’re difficult to get here, but I had to share the awesomeness in some way. If you really want them they are worth making pabili or waiting until your next visit to the US to get them. You can also use services like House of Flair to order from US websites.

Have any of you tried these eyeshadows? What do you think? :) Tons of people say that the Maybelline 24-Hour Color Tattoos are better, but I have two of those and I was just not impressed!

Go, go! They are sooo pretty. <3 Grey cream shadow? :) Or any formula? My fave grey/silver is theBalm's "Insane Jane." :)

They are definitely worth the effort to get your hands on them, and I completely get that these are different from – and in my case preferable to – the Mabelline Color Tattoos. Have you tried Ebay? I have most of the US releases, and about 6 European only colors that I got from various sellers. They have 2 greys you might be interested in, Liquid Diamond is a silver and Pebble Grey/Sultry Smoke is a beautiful matte color. If you do get Infallibles off Ebay just be aware that the color names and numbers are different for the same colors in Europe and US. Like Burning Black/Smoldering Plum or Endless Chocolat/Bottomless Java. There are more, someone somewhere has a chart.

Wow thanks for all of the info! :) I have not tried Ebay, I’m kind of afraid of it… haha! But yes I’ve heard of the names being different in America and the UK. I will do some hunting for that chart. ;)

  2. I got here (again) through Liz, but I’ve been a follower for a few months now. I just wanted to say that this post made me want the Infallibles, and I managed to get three! You’re absolutely right; Amber Rush is a dream!
