Holiday Splurge: Laura Mercier Deluxe Travel Brush Collection

Buying travel and/or holiday sets is one way to get a good deal when it comes to cosmetics or cosmetic tools. They are usually pretty pricey, but after calculating how much each individual item in a set comes out to, it’s very rarely a waste of money. So when I saw this brush set from Laura Mercier last December, I could hardly contain myself and I almost flew out of the store with it. The quality of the brushes was fantastic and the design of the case was absolultely gorgeous. LM2It took a lot of will power, but I did not fly out the store with this right away last  December. The price tag read 3,950.00 Php (roughly 90USD), so the sensible part of me took control and I decided to think about it and do some research first. About a month later, as you can probably already tell, I decided it was 100% worth it and brought my new baby home. ♥
LM3The Laura Mercier Deluxe Travel Brush Collection includes five brushes (four double-ended ones and one regular one), a little detachable mesh pouch, and a hard case that zips closed. The colour scheme of the set is a deep chocolate brown which might not appeal to everyone but I think it’s very classy and it’s obviously in line with the rest of Laura Mercier’s packaging, too. The outer shell isn’t totally boring because it’s a sort of faux snake skin texture, while the interior is made of cloth and might just be a bit difficult to clean, but at least it isn’t white.
LM4The mesh pouch attaches and detaches from the rest of the case magnetically, which I thought was genius. No velcro or annoying fumbly buttons here! You can take the small pouch separately, which is a nice option to have because the hard case does not hold too much makeup and can be bulky to pack. I tried putting all of my travel makeup essentials in this and it was a tight fit. Soft makeup cases seem to carry more things without any difficulty, but this case would be alright for an overnight trip. That is the biggest down side to this brush set, no doubt, and it was something I couldn’t have predicted from checking it out in stores. But let’s get to the meat of this, shall we? The brushes…
LM5… are awesome. You know how travel brushes are often really flimsy and difficult to work with? Well, these are not that way at all! Each of the double ended brushes in this set are available as regular brushes in the LM full sized line, I believe, and the cheek brush is just a miniature of the regular size. The quality of the hairs is great on each of the brushes, some being synthetic and others natural hair. The handles aren’t too light nor too heavy and don’t feel as though they’ll fall apart within a few years or so. LM6One side of the brush handles will show you the function that each brush is designed to tackle. the double ended ones clump together similar functions, like the smudge/flat liner brush (far left) and the pony tail/all over eye colour (second from right). I initially thought I would be keeping these in storage until I actually had to travel somewhere, but I find myself reaching for the cheek brush and the ponytail/all over eye colour brushes quite often, which goes to show just how good they really are. The only thing I might want to change is the brow definer brush, which is paired with the plastic spoolie–it might have been better for that one to be natural hair instead of synthetic, since I use powder shadows to fill my brows and not gel. Other than that though, there’s very little to complain about when it comes to the brushes.

If you can still get your hands on one of these brush sets (they are limited edition), I rate them highly and encourage anyone who’s into makeup to make the investment.
