Guerlain Ecrin 4 Couleurs: Le Bois de Rose

After I bought Turandot, I knew I wanted more Guerlain eyeshadows in my life. What’s funny is that I’ve always wanted a Dior 5-shadow palette, not Guerain stuff, but I never end up buying Dior palettes for one reason or another. Anyway, Les Bois de Rose is my second Guerlain 4-colour palette. It’s more cool-toned than I would normally go for, but I was looking to try some pink eyeshadows and was not adventurous enough to go all-out and get Les RosesLBDRThere are times when I wish I did go for Les Roses, but I grew to love Les Bois de Rose over time. The four shades balance each other out nicely, with that rose pink in the center being the only really pink shade in the palette. The shimmery white has a pinkish undertone, while the other two shades are purple-y taupes. It’s put together beautifully and you can create so many looks with this combination of colours. LBDR2Guerlain packaging is the definition of luxury. The reflective surface can be a fingerprint magnet, but this looks like it could be sitting on princess’ vanity. Or maybe a Hollywood actress from back in the day. Most people chuck the velvet pouch this comes in, but I actually keep mine in it while in storage. To me it just adds to the experience. I love slipping it out of the velvet and setting it on my vanity whenever I use it. LBDR3The suggested way of using this is to sweep the lightest colour all over the lid, pat the pink on the center of the lid, define the crease with the lighter taupe, and line the eyes with the deeper purple-taupe. You can obviously use it however you want to, though. The colours layer beautifully and they work alone nicely as well. There isn’t a matte shade here which is a slight drawback, but the lighter taupe does a good job of defining the crease despite the presence of a little shimmer. LBDR4Swatched clockwise beginning with the shimmery white. I have absolutely zero fallout problems with these eyeshadows. Extra impressive considering they are all pearl finishes! The darkest shade is actually much darker than it appears to be in the photo. When used with a damp eyeliner brush, it’s a really fantastic eyeliner.

Lately I’ve been using the darkest shade from the palette in the crease with my L’Oreal Infallible shadow in Smoldering Plum all over the lid. It’s a darker eye look that takes very little effort to achieve because the products are so easy to work with. When I want a lighter smokey eye, the light taupe from Les Bois de Rose is the perfect crease shade.
LBDR5I think I got this particular palette for 2,700 Php, but you can get it anywhere between 2,500 and 3,000 Php depending where you buy it. Rustan’s often puts these on sale and they can go as low as 2,400 Php. I think it’s totally worth the price, but of course I’m not buying them all in one go!

What are your favourite high end palettes? Tom Ford? Dior? Chanel? Do share! I love a little splurge, especially during the holiday season! :)
