I know what you’re thinking — WOW, Mariana remembered she has a blog! HEHE. Sorry. Hello. Let’s talk about perfumes now…
I’m a huge fan of perfume rollerballs. They’re a great way to test out a scent without having to spend a crazy amount on a full-sized bottle just yet. Sephora carries a ton of them, priced anywhere from 12ish USD – 25ish USD depending on the brand. Still a bit pricey, but it beats having to pay 100+ USD right off the bat. On my recent trip to NYC, I picked up two from REPLICA by Maison Margiela scents.
The REPLICA line is a set of fragrances “designed to evoke images, impressions and positive emotions that reflect our personal memories.” Love the idea behind the range and I really liked two of the scents: Jazz Club and Beach Walk. The full size bottles look like this: Gorgeous, no? I wanted one badly, but the 100mL bottles are about 85 GBP/ 125 USD and I just wasn’t totally sure about either scent that I liked. Picking up the rollerball size was just the obvious thing to do. These were 25 USD each so still pretty damn pricey because I bought two, but they should last me a while anyway. Here are the scent descriptions:
Jazz Club immortalises the masculine and exhilarating ambiance of a Brooklyn jazz club. The balmy base scent of musk, vanilla, tonka bean, vetiver, and tobacco leaves combine to evoke a familiar but forgotten moment—a night’s sojourn to a hidden jazz club.
Beach Walk combines fresh and radiant notes of bergamot, coconut milk, lemon, pink pepper, and musk to evoke a familiar but forgotten moment—a walk along a sandy beach.
Jazz Club is classified as a “masculine” fragrance while Beach Walk is “feminine” — I think they should have just left the entire line gender neutral since they’re experience-inspired scents (and experiences apply to just humans in general? lol), but I guess placing gender labels has long been a part of describing scents so… they are forgiven, I guess.
So I really like both of these fragrances; Jazz Club is sensual, sexy, and totally what I would reach for for an evening event, while Beach Walk is more day-appropriate and powdery fresh (but not really evocative of a beach vibe in my opinion). I might consider Jazz Club in the full sized bottle, but I’m not fully convinced yet. Beach Walk, on the other hand, I will use up but wouldn’t repurchase (recently found another beach-inspired scent that trumps this). I’ve very much been into fragrance lately, actually. I think it’s something that happens as you get older… and I am in the second half of my 20s now (huhu). Which just means more fun stuff to explore I guess! Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black is still my all-time fave, but my nostrils crave variety now. I’ll tell you guys about the new beach-inspired scent that I’ve been loving very soon!
