Fight Of The Century FOTD

I woke up this morning with the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight on mind.

I don’t normally watch boxing — but I’m Filipino, which is an explanation for my excitement and anxiety in itself. I remember being in New York a few years ago and whenever a taxi driver and I got to talking and they found out I was Filipino, they would nearly always scream out “PACMAAAN! I love that guy!” and of course I would beam from ear to ear and agree: everyone loves Manny; he’s an incredible athlete with a tear-jerking rags to riches story behind him and he’s a fun-loving guy to boot.

Now I wouldn’t be keeping true to myself if I didn’t mention that I don’t admire Manny in all aspects. I don’t think he’s a good public servant and the company he keeps is often questionable. As an athlete, it’s undeniable that he’s brilliant. I just wish he had stuck to being a boxer and kept his hands out of politics, but not much to be done about that anymore. There were even rumours flying around that if he had won today’s fight, he would have run in the 2016 elections. Uh… if my choice is between Binay and Pacquiao in 2016, I honestly have no clue what I will do. Bury my head in the sand, perhaps.

ANYWAY. Manny lost today. And really, I was rooting for him as an athlete. Mayweather fought dirty and brought all sorts of BV to the fight, while Manny put up a good fight but fell short in terms of adapting to the situation and being aggressive. I couldn’t help but feel down after the decision was announced. Still, the whole thing was quite the spectacle and I enjoyed watching it on PPV with my family. We had white sangrias and some pica-pica during the fight, and a full lunch of paella, prawns, and grilled chicken afterwards.

I’m getting to the makeup part of this post now, don’t worry. Haha. I did try to match my look for today with the occasion, but after sitting at my vanity for a few minutes I knew I didn’t want to go too literal by wearing blue, red, and yellow (our flag colours) on my face. So I threw on a blue top instead and decided to go for a very golden look on my face (never mind the red lol) … because Manny is the golden boy of boxing and I wanted him to go for gold (even though there technically is no gold medal up for grabs–gold belt, pwede?)! Get it? Bit of a stretch? Haha! I do what I can. P1190071Keeping with my golden theme, I used my L’Oreal Lucent Magique Foundation in G7 (my summer shade) mixed with my Myra VitaGlow BB Cream* in Ivory to get a very glowy base.

Stocking Up On Old Favourites: My Sasa Picks

Catching a glimpse of Sasa’s pink logo always gets my heart racing and my lips inevitably curl up into a smile. It’s a reaction mirrored only by a Sephora sighting. Sasa (in case you didn’t already know) is an Asian beauty and health store based in Hong Kong and found in many major Asian cities—but not the Philippines. Boo.

Sasa carries a wide array of brands (from Caudalie to Elizabeth Arden to Fairydrops, Bourjois, Canmake and so much more) and is known for selling little sample sizes of products as well as offering things at great prices. Shopping in Sasa is a strange mix of the drugstore shopping experience combined with some higher end options and great deals. I love it.
P1180536There was only really one thing I knew I had to pick up from Sasa on my recent trip to Macau: the Fairydrops Quattro Mascara (120 MOP / approx. 680 Php), which you can see on the far right in the photo above.

The Beauty Bee Awards: Best of 2013!

BBAIt’s time to go through my Beauty favourites for 2013! :) I had a difficult time choosing between products, so I thought it would be fun to present the “winners” alongside the other products that nearly made it. I love everything shown here, but the winners have been consistent faves throughout the year (or at least since I acquired them).

I didn’t limit myself to any number of categories, but I ended up with a nice round number: 10. The winners/faves are named in the photo and my little bee mascot can be seen hovering close to them. Let’s have a look! :)

FOTD – Sept. 17, 2013

FOTD091613.jpg

I don’t post looks very often because I feel like I’m awful at capturing the colours well. I also sometimes think that I look the same in all of the pictures… but I guess you can see the difference when they’re placed side by side! Here’s what I had on today yesterday. I reviewed a lot of these products recently, actually. The Clinique CC cream review should be up in a few days so watch out for that! :)

Base: Clinique CC Cream mixed with Vichy Normaderm Teint, MUD Blue Corrector #3, K Palette Zero Kuma Concealer, Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, and Clinique Stay-Matte Pressed powder (translucent) with UD De-Slick sprayed over top to set

Cheeks: MAC Small Vanity blush

Eyes: L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Amber Rush on the lids, MAC Espresso on the outer-V and on the lower outer lash line, Inglot shimmery pink on the inner corner, Fairyfrops Platinum mascara (waterproof variant), and Shu Uemura Hard 9 Eyebrow pencil in seal brown

Lips: Too Faced La Creme lipstick in Spice Spice Baby

Beauty Chit Chat | Sept 9, 2013

Apologies for the long absence! Things at school have been a bit hectic of late as we’re making up for all of that time we lost when there was a storm last month. Make up classes galore! And not the kind of makeup I love, unfortunately (wow that was corny). So anyway, I have quite the backlog of posts in my drafts folder but I can’t stand to publish things that aren’t quite ready yet, so I thought I would just talk at random a bit. Still about makeup/beauty of course!

I’m only 9 days into my 4-month makeup no-buy and it’s kind of getting to me. I now avoid makeup stores because I get all sad when I look at the products. Announcements of makeup launches for fall are also killing me. Even watching my favourite Youtubers’ videos is starting to become a little difficult because all the makeup just looks so puhretty on them… and now I can’t help but wonder: did I really buy makeup so often that a ban can give me these withdrawal-like symptoms? It’s hilarious in a sad, sad way. Lol.

Before the ban started, I did make it a point to purchase some essentials that I anticipated I would run out of within the next four months. MBPPromise that wasn’t just an excuse to go and buy stuff! I just honestly would not be able to function properly if I ran out of any of these things. It’s not an exclusive bunch, but again, these are things I’m running out of already so I thought stocking up would be wise.
