Fight Of The Century FOTD

I woke up this morning with the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight on mind.

I don’t normally watch boxing — but I’m Filipino, which is an explanation for my excitement and anxiety in itself. I remember being in New York a few years ago and whenever a taxi driver and I got to talking and they found out I was Filipino, they would nearly always scream out “PACMAAAN! I love that guy!” and of course I would beam from ear to ear and agree: everyone loves Manny; he’s an incredible athlete with a tear-jerking rags to riches story behind him and he’s a fun-loving guy to boot.

Now I wouldn’t be keeping true to myself if I didn’t mention that I don’t admire Manny in all aspects. I don’t think he’s a good public servant and the company he keeps is often questionable. As an athlete, it’s undeniable that he’s brilliant. I just wish he had stuck to being a boxer and kept his hands out of politics, but not much to be done about that anymore. There were even rumours flying around that if he had won today’s fight, he would have run in the 2016 elections. Uh… if my choice is between Binay and Pacquiao in 2016, I honestly have no clue what I will do. Bury my head in the sand, perhaps.

ANYWAY. Manny lost today. And really, I was rooting for him as an athlete. Mayweather fought dirty and brought all sorts of BV to the fight, while Manny put up a good fight but fell short in terms of adapting to the situation and being aggressive. I couldn’t help but feel down after the decision was announced. Still, the whole thing was quite the spectacle and I enjoyed watching it on PPV with my family. We had white sangrias and some pica-pica during the fight, and a full lunch of paella, prawns, and grilled chicken afterwards.

I’m getting to the makeup part of this post now, don’t worry. Haha. I did try to match my look for today with the occasion, but after sitting at my vanity for a few minutes I knew I didn’t want to go too literal by wearing blue, red, and yellow (our flag colours) on my face. So I threw on a blue top instead and decided to go for a very golden look on my face (never mind the red lol) … because Manny is the golden boy of boxing and I wanted him to go for gold (even though there technically is no gold medal up for grabs–gold belt, pwede?)! Get it? Bit of a stretch? Haha! I do what I can. P1190071Keeping with my golden theme, I used my L’Oreal Lucent Magique Foundation in G7 (my summer shade) mixed with my Myra VitaGlow BB Cream* in Ivory to get a very glowy base.

Sweet Summer Deal: Stila Convertible Color Trio (2015 Limited Edition)

I have to be one of the last persons on Earth to try the Stila Convertible Colors. Everyone knows what they are and it seems that everyone adores them, too. I was looking through reviews on the product before writing this post and I did not stumble across a single one that might be considered negative. Crazy! And can you believe that the Convertible Colors have been InStyle magazine’s “Best Cream Blush” for ten years in a row? Again: crazy!

I didn’t go out with the intention of picking this set up but when I stumbled upon it one day while browsing through Essences at Rockwell, I thought it was a good deal. I guess that just as clichés are clichés for a reason, “cult faves” are cult faves for a reason, too. These are awesome and I wish I had brought them into my life sooner…but better late than never!
P1180656The “Beauty in Bloom” Convertible Color Trio (1,150.00 Php) is a limited edition set for summer that contains three mini Convertible Colors, weighing 2g each as opposed to the full-sized 4.25g Convertible Colors.

The set I chose has the shades Camellia, Peony, and Tulip in it, which are all wearable and “safe” shades. There is also a “Blooming Bright” Convertible Color Trio that has brighter colours, namely Lilium, Petunia, and Hibiscus.

Face Of The Day: Sunday Test Drive

It’s been a while since I last posted an FOTD — mostly because it’s too hot to wear much makeup and also because I still wear the same look 90% of the time — but today I actually pulled out a number new things and so I thought it was worth documenting.
P1190003It’s a still a simple look; I kept the base light but changed it up a bit with the tone of my lipstick and blush. The eye makeup isn’t even showing up here but that was crazy simple too… wearing glasses tends to make one lazy, hehe.

CC + CC

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen this photo posted up a couple of days ago: IMG_9638These are my two most recent makeup acquisitions and on one crazy day, the MAC Prep + Prime Color Correcting Creme and Stila Convertible Color in Camellia were all I wore out of the house. Those and nothing else. Can’t get much more minimal than that! And I really liked it. So before I write up full reviews, I thought I might take you through my process in choosing and eventually purchasing these babies.

Love/Hate: Stila Smudge Sticks

Hi guys! Sorry about the absence of a Sunday post this past weekend. I don’t really hold myself to a strict schedule when it comes to uploading posts, but I do especially like posting on Sundays. I like to imagine someone reading my blog on a Sunday afternoon or evening over a cup of tea or something. Makes me happy. Anyway, I will try to gather some photos of the look I wore on Sunday (attended a wedding), but I was in a massive rush getting ready and too busy having fun at the reception so… yeah. I’ve been an irresponsible blogger yet again. Buuut, I promise to try harder next time! For now, it’s back to regular programming…P1170376Allow me to clarify the title to this post: I love Stila Smudge Sticks but I hate how expensive they are. One Smudge Stick will set you back 20 USD (around 900 Php locally) for a measly 0.28g of product. I have, however, been pretty lucky with these things. The first one I tried came with my In The Light Palette (review) and the set I am featuring in this post was pasalubong from my mom from a recent trip to the States. P1160082She picked it up at Nordstrom Rack for just 14.97 USD discounted from 25.00 USD for FIVE Smudge Sticks, plus an awesome tin. This is exactly why shopping in the US is crazy awesome (not to mention nakakabaliw)

FOTD feat. Sigma Gel Liner in Unexpected and Stila Smudge Stick in Navy

FOTD3Hi, guys! Just sharing a look I wore last week to match a dress. I don’t usually do match-matchy makeup, but sometimes I’m just in that strange sort of mood. Above is the only full-body shot I have of the dress; you can zoom in to see it up close. I wore it to my dad’s alumni homecoming night last week, where he received an award for outstanding corporate governance from his college. He went to the University of the Philippines, Los Baños, which is known for being a pioneer in agricultural studies. As you can see behind us, the magsasaka (farmer) and tamaraw stand proudly as the symbols of the school.

FOTDrOn to the look! I quite liked the mix of muted pastels with the solid navy blue panel on the dress I wore, so I worked that into the look by using a navy blue Stila Smudge Stick. On my upper lash line, I went in with a grey gel liner from Sigma (Unexpected), and the rest of my look is very soft and pastel.

My Holiday Collection Wishlist + Beauty Chit Chat #2

Hey guys! How are you all doing? :) I’ve been super stressed at school, but I can really feel the Christmas spirit creeping up on me! The Christmas songs and decor are slightly distracting, but it’s definitely the holiday makeup collections that are always on my mind these days. What an exciting time of year to be a beauty enthusiast (lol)! I personally get most excited for Fall collections in general, but holiday collections are just so pretty, festive, and are also often a great way to snag a deal by buying makeup sets. Who doesn’t love them!

I still can’t buy any makeup until January 1 (if you’re not a regular reader,  you can read about my makeup ban here), but browsing is definitely allowed. It kills me to walk by counters, swatch products, ohh-and-aahhh over products, and not be able to pick them up, but I do have the one Christmas item that I’m allowed to pick out for myself. I haven’t seen all of the collections or studied them very well, but these are the things that have caught my eye so far.

I present to you my (incomplete) Holiday Collection Wishlist:

mac_nocturnalssilverviolet0021. MAC Nocturnals Pigment & Glitter Set in Silver and Violet (2,100Php) – Of course I have to start with something MAC. Every year I tell myself that I won’t be that interested in the MAC holiday collection, based on the promo material–but every year I fall in love with something at the counter. This set includes three pigments and two glitters. I’ve never owned a MAC pigment but I have only heard great things about them. This set includes the ever-popular Vanilla pigment as well as a pearly pink shimmer called Kitschmas. I love that– Kistchmas! Click on the photo to see a review by Temptaliamac_divinenightgroup0042. MAC Divine Night Lipstick in Private Party (1,100 Php) – Private Party is the second from the right and is the one shade in the line that Temptalia rated with an A. It was also the one that I fell in love with when I swatched it. It’s a dirty plum mauve with a satin finish. The colour is right up my alley and I am dying to get my hands on it. Again, click the link to see a full review! This goes for the rest of the items on this list, too. :)lauramercier_merlot0023. Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Merlot(1,100 Php) – Ok, so this is part of a Fall collection and it will be in the permanent range… but ugh, it’s such a beautiful deep burgundy red that I would totally wear for Christmas and New Years parties. A friend of mine has this exact shade and she reports that it doesn’t stain (fine by me) but it does wear comfortably.

Stila-Color-Outside-The-Lines-Smudge-Stick-Waterproof-Eye-Liner-Set4. Stila Colour Outside the Lines Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner Set ($34) – Stila’s smudge sticks are incredible. They are, however, in a twist-up mechanism and they run out quickly, so buying them in sets makes a lot of sense. This is a set of five full sized eye liners. lauramercier_artistpalette0015. Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette for Eyes for Holiday 2013 ($48) – So this palette leans toward being cool-toned, but I think it will work for me because of the purples and taupes. I’ve checked this out at a counter and the packaging is not top quality, but I just about died over the quality of the shadows. Last year’s LM holiday eye palette (see Carina’s post on that one!) was also a wishlist item, but I did not end up getting that one… maybe because this one is better suited to me? Hihi. Also, this is supposed to be “exclusive to Sephora” but you can definitely get it at LM counters in Rustan’s locally.

So that’s what’s on my wishlist for now. Do let me know what you think about my picks and feel free to share if you are also lemming after a few Christmas collection items. :) I also want to chat a bit about the soon-to-be-released Urban Decay NAKED 3 palette.

My 5 Favourite Lip Glosses!

Hi guys! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! :) I don’t really get into it as a holiday, but if you’re Trick or Treat-ing, good for you! Candy was always the best part of Halloween for me. Then you get too old for it and you only use it as an excuse to dress all slutty (Mean Girls!) — we all had that phase… right? Lol, I was once a slutty soldier. I cringe! Anyway, I don’t have a Halloween-themed post for today or anything, but I’m working on uploading my October favourites video at the moment. It’s taking much longer than expected, so I decided to go ahead and let this post loose first. :) MFLG1Meet my five favourite lip glosses! :) I discovered the wonders of a good gloss late in my “makeup life” because I thought that all glosses were glassy, tacky, hair traps. They were just messy things I couldn’t be bothered with. Then I had the chance to try a mini lip gloss from Urban Decay (the one that comes with the NAKED 2 palette) and my mind was blown! It was the perfect texture, comfortable on the lips, manageable when it came to trapping hair, and it smelled of mint (love!). That gloss would undoubtedly be a part of my favourites now if I still had it. Sucks that UD is not available here, but I will definitely buy a full size one day! For now though, these lippies are keeping me quite happy:

1. VMV Hypoallergenics Lip Gloss in Coquette Rosette (1,000 Php) – This lip gloss is more like a liquid lipstick. It’s completely opaque. I use it alone most of the time because it makes little difference if I wear it over a lipstick. You do have to be careful about rubbing your lips when this is on because it kind of balls up when you do that, but if you don’t have that habit, this will wear for ages!

2. MAC Cremesheen Glass in Colour Saturation (2, 450.00 Php for a set of 4) – I only have three MAC glosses and they’re all from the set I got last Christmas (gave one away). This cremesheen glass is my favourite because the colour is a beautiful purple/plum with a hint of pink in it. The name Colour Saturation is apt. You do get a punch of purple from this and you can wear it both alone or layered over a lipstick to alter the shade. On its own it’s not quite opaque but it’s definitely not sheer either. Your lips will show through the veil of shiny purpleness in the prettiest way! This spreads evenly and wears for around 3 hours without eating or drinking. Smells of vanilla just like MAC lipsticks, but it has faded over time.

3. Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss in Rose Sugar 3 (approx. 1,300.00 Php) – This is the lip gloss that I can wear over top of my MLBB lipsticks without altering the colour too much. It just adds a shine that really lasts. This is the only gloss that has lasted on my lips for an entire day out (approx. 6 hours?), keeping its shine and just resting really comfortably on my lips. Smells of cookies!

4. Stila Lip Glaze in Sugar Plum (approx. 1,300 for Christmas set of 8 / 800Php individually) – The only one in the bunch with a brush applicator! This one works like a click pen. You twist the end opposite the brush to dispense product and then just swish it on with the brush. You don’t get too much product, but the way it’s pushed out means there isn’t any going to waste, whereas when you have gloss in a tube, you can’t always get everything. Still, 0.05 oz is very little product. Buy these in Christmas sets and save yourself from spending the full price!

5. Mini Shu Uemura Gloss Unlimited in PK 70 C (700.00Php for a set of 2 travel sized minis) – Got this one off Taste Central thinking it was a set of two big ones. Oops! Oh well, it’s a cute size and it was my own fault for not checking. I love the formula of this though! Very smooth and not tacky at all. Because of the milky pink colour, I use this when I want to lighten a lip stick or make it more like a pastel.

SITLI’ve had my Stila In the Light palette (1,750.00 Php) since September 11, 2012. I know the exact date because I took all of these photos (except for the swatches at the end) the day after I bought the palette. Hehe. So It has been nearly a year since I’ve had this baby but I only thought to write aboutit lately because I finally decided that yes– yes, I do like this palette more than I like the original UD NAKED palette.
