Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks: Nighthawk, Twitch, & Liar (Cream Formula) Review

Before it’s stale news, let’s talk about Urban Decay’s new line of lipsticks: Vice. There are 100 shades that come in 6 different finishes, plus there are 50 lip liners available to match certain shades. That’s a lot of colours.

Of course, Christine of Temptalia has posted swatches of all 100 shades, plus 20 more shades that will be available only at Sephora (bless her). DSC08322It’s more than a little bit overwhelming to browse all of the shades online, so I went to the UD store at Covent Garden to have a look instead. It was still overwhelming to see 100 shades spread out in front of me, but I let the excitement take hold and my instincts directed me to a few shades to begin. Those were: 1993, Nighthawk, Violate, Liquid, Twitch, and Uptight.

For the sake of my wallet, I decided that I would allow myself two shades to take home initially and if I really liked the formula, only then would I allow myself to go back for more. DSC08326Nighthawk (a brown-red) and Twitch ( a soft purple with a blue undertone) are the shades that made the cut.

My Holiday Collection Wishlist + Beauty Chit Chat #2

Hey guys! How are you all doing? :) I’ve been super stressed at school, but I can really feel the Christmas spirit creeping up on me! The Christmas songs and decor are slightly distracting, but it’s definitely the holiday makeup collections that are always on my mind these days. What an exciting time of year to be a beauty enthusiast (lol)! I personally get most excited for Fall collections in general, but holiday collections are just so pretty, festive, and are also often a great way to snag a deal by buying makeup sets. Who doesn’t love them!

I still can’t buy any makeup until January 1 (if you’re not a regular reader,  you can read about my makeup ban here), but browsing is definitely allowed. It kills me to walk by counters, swatch products, ohh-and-aahhh over products, and not be able to pick them up, but I do have the one Christmas item that I’m allowed to pick out for myself. I haven’t seen all of the collections or studied them very well, but these are the things that have caught my eye so far.

I present to you my (incomplete) Holiday Collection Wishlist:

mac_nocturnalssilverviolet0021. MAC Nocturnals Pigment & Glitter Set in Silver and Violet (2,100Php) – Of course I have to start with something MAC. Every year I tell myself that I won’t be that interested in the MAC holiday collection, based on the promo material–but every year I fall in love with something at the counter. This set includes three pigments and two glitters. I’ve never owned a MAC pigment but I have only heard great things about them. This set includes the ever-popular Vanilla pigment as well as a pearly pink shimmer called Kitschmas. I love that– Kistchmas! Click on the photo to see a review by Temptaliamac_divinenightgroup0042. MAC Divine Night Lipstick in Private Party (1,100 Php) – Private Party is the second from the right and is the one shade in the line that Temptalia rated with an A. It was also the one that I fell in love with when I swatched it. It’s a dirty plum mauve with a satin finish. The colour is right up my alley and I am dying to get my hands on it. Again, click the link to see a full review! This goes for the rest of the items on this list, too. :)lauramercier_merlot0023. Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Merlot(1,100 Php) – Ok, so this is part of a Fall collection and it will be in the permanent range… but ugh, it’s such a beautiful deep burgundy red that I would totally wear for Christmas and New Years parties. A friend of mine has this exact shade and she reports that it doesn’t stain (fine by me) but it does wear comfortably.

Stila-Color-Outside-The-Lines-Smudge-Stick-Waterproof-Eye-Liner-Set4. Stila Colour Outside the Lines Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner Set ($34) – Stila’s smudge sticks are incredible. They are, however, in a twist-up mechanism and they run out quickly, so buying them in sets makes a lot of sense. This is a set of five full sized eye liners. lauramercier_artistpalette0015. Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette for Eyes for Holiday 2013 ($48) – So this palette leans toward being cool-toned, but I think it will work for me because of the purples and taupes. I’ve checked this out at a counter and the packaging is not top quality, but I just about died over the quality of the shadows. Last year’s LM holiday eye palette (see Carina’s post on that one!) was also a wishlist item, but I did not end up getting that one… maybe because this one is better suited to me? Hihi. Also, this is supposed to be “exclusive to Sephora” but you can definitely get it at LM counters in Rustan’s locally.

So that’s what’s on my wishlist for now. Do let me know what you think about my picks and feel free to share if you are also lemming after a few Christmas collection items. :) I also want to chat a bit about the soon-to-be-released Urban Decay NAKED 3 palette.

Review: Urban Decay NAKED Skin Foundation

It’s very rare that I give an unfavorable review. Products that disappoint me usually just disappear into the back of a drawer or gather dust in some remote corner of my dresser. I really should start writing about them, though, as I myself find it useful when I read negative reviews of a product online. I don’t think it’s worth revisiting most of the products that have disappointed me (maybe just an eyeshadow duo from a certain brand I love… we’ll see), but this particular foundation is something I almost have to talk about because it’s Urban Decay and because I made considerable efforts to get my hands on it. I’ll be as objective as I can be in reviewing this, but this is unavoidably based on personal experiences and preferences. UDNS1The Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation ($39.00) is meant to give “coverage without compromise.” It comes in an impressive range of 18 different shades that cover the lightest porcelain to the darkest ebony, keeping both pink and yellow (cool and warm) undertones in mind. UD says: “Our weightless formula blurs imperfections for a flawless finish that feels invisible, but looks professionally retouched.”

So as a consumer, you can expect an airbrushed finish without that heavy foundation feel. It’s supposed to give a demi-matte (so it’s suppose to look natural) finish with a buildable coverage. Temptalia gave this foundation a rating of A… do I agree?

FOTD – Sept. 17, 2013

FOTD091613.jpg

I don’t post looks very often because I feel like I’m awful at capturing the colours well. I also sometimes think that I look the same in all of the pictures… but I guess you can see the difference when they’re placed side by side! Here’s what I had on today yesterday. I reviewed a lot of these products recently, actually. The Clinique CC cream review should be up in a few days so watch out for that! :)

Base: Clinique CC Cream mixed with Vichy Normaderm Teint, MUD Blue Corrector #3, K Palette Zero Kuma Concealer, Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, and Clinique Stay-Matte Pressed powder (translucent) with UD De-Slick sprayed over top to set

Cheeks: MAC Small Vanity blush

Eyes: L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Amber Rush on the lids, MAC Espresso on the outer-V and on the lower outer lash line, Inglot shimmery pink on the inner corner, Fairyfrops Platinum mascara (waterproof variant), and Shu Uemura Hard 9 Eyebrow pencil in seal brown

Lips: Too Faced La Creme lipstick in Spice Spice Baby

New in This Week!

[L-R clockwise]: Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in #56, Caudalie Beauty Elixir, MAC Chatterbox (Amplified Creme), MAC Dare You ( Cremesheen), Urban Decay 24/7 Shadow Pencil in “Clinic,” and Urban Decay Original Primer Potion.

1. Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum– I already have the Healthy Mix foundation, which I unexpectedly found at a Watsons in HK a while back, and I liked the formula but picked the wrong shade. I heard that the serum version of Healthy Mix was even better (more of a gel formulation) so I ordered this off ASOS and waited a month for it to arrive plus I had to pay customs fees… oh the crazy things I do to get my hands on makeup. The good news is that I love this so far and the shade I picked might be a tinge too dark for me but the formula is forgiving so it’s not a problem.

2. Caudalie Beauty Elixir – This is another product that so many people swear by. I asked my boyfriend to pick it up for me while he was in Singapore last week, and when he read my list he couldn’t get over it being a “beauty elixir” which I have to admit is kind of funny. It definitely doesn’t make you instantly beautiful or anything crazy like that, but it is incredibly invigorating for a face spray. If you’ve been wearing makeup for a few hours, this spray can help make you look fresh again!

3 & 4. MAC “Chatterbox” and “Dare You” – I have wanted these lippies for a while now. Chatterbox is really creamy pink that kind of leans towards the cooler side, but can sometimes look neutral. So as a morena, this is a bit difficult to pull off, but it’s do-able! Dare You is a red that all warm-skinned girls should look into. It’s very wearable because it’s not a solid red– as a cremesheen it has more of a glossy finish (but not too much so). I imagine this as the perfect Christmas red!

5. Urban Decay 24/7 Shadow Pencil in “Clinic” – I love green eyeshadows. This color is an emerald green with silver glitters in it. It’s easy to apply and stays put really well even without a powder over top, but even better so with a powder shadow. I’m pretty sure I’ll do a review/comparison post on this eyeshadow/liner, so I won’t say much right now.

6. Urban Decay Original Primer Potion – Just replacing my old tube, but this is the first time I got the primer in the new packaging! It’s a huge improvement over the old one, which had a useless doe foot applicator. There are other primers out there and I even have one which is arguably better than the UDPP, but this is just so convenient and easy to apply. Repurchase forever.

Lip Junkie Mini

Loving this mini Lip Junkie that came with my Urban Decay NAKED 2 palette. I didn’t expect to, since I was never much of a lip gloss girl. I tried to find a dupe for the color in a Bobbie Brown lipgloss, but failed. Color-wise it wasn’t a match but I ended up loving that lipgloss too! This little gloss sample may have started a new obsession! Now, to buy the full size or not to buy the full size?

Urban Decay NAKED Skin Foundation – Match System & Drool-Fest

I first heard about the UD NAKED Skin foundation on YouTube as I was watching some coverage of IMATS in LA. The range of 18 shades was laid out at the UD booth, looking shiny and fabulous. I knew I had to have it. Not necessarily immediately, but eventually at least. Just look at it:

The main problem is that Urban Decay is not available in Manila. That’s easily remedied by generous relatives and friends from abroad who are willing to bring home a few goodies for you once in a while. So the next top problem would inevitably be shade selection. Buying foundation based on a few photos and swatches off other blogs doesn’t exactly seem too smart. Good thing the Urban Decay website has been extremely helpful in solving that problem! Using the  “Find your shade” tool, I pinpointed the exact shade out of the 18 that will suit me best!

Read on to see how it works!

A First: Fancy Fragrance!

Miss Dior Cherie

Isn’t the bottle just so pretty? :) I fell in love with the look of this perfume (which has been around for a very long time according to my mom, since 1947) when I saw the new advertisements out with Natalie Portman as the new model for the scent. Of course they timed it along with the release of Black Swan, but I love Natalie Portman for all of her roles. So I went to the Rustan’s fragrance section the next time I happened to be in Shangri-la and tried it out–and instantly loved it. I also checked out reviews online and the opinion on the scent is divided: you either hate it or adore it. There are “caramel popcorn” notes along with “mandarin, strawberry leaf, violet, jasmine, wild strawberry sorbet, musk, and patchouli.” I know, it sounds sickeningly sweet and I know nothing about perfume notes and all that, but I do love this scent. :)

More pictures and more femininity after the jump!
